People are always asking me who’s going to win the World Cup. Well, it’s so hard to pick a winner. My heart, of course, says Argentina. I’m going to have to go for Argentina to win, at least I hope they do.
But it’s difficult to say. World Cups are always complicated, always difficult. Just because you have big names doesn’t mean you have a big team. You need a bit of everything in a World Cup.
I think sometimes luck has not been on our side, but I think you need to be very good in seven matches and everything has to be right. Besides being a great team, you need luck and to hope that everything comes out perfect from the first to the last match.
I sincerely hope that this will be Argentina’s World Cup and they can get as far as possible because I think that is what Argentina needs after so many World Cups without even reaching the semi-finals.
As for my dark horses, the surprise package in Brazil could be Belgium. They have some very strong players, good players like Romelu Lukaku and Eden Hazard. They are a very skilled team.
The surprise player could be Pablo Zabaleta. He’s a player who few talk about, but he can have an excellent World Cup, he always has good performances with Man City and Albiceleste.
The top scorer? I think Lionel Messi, but he has some competition as there are some very good strikers. CR7, Neymar, Robin van Persie, Miroslav Klose. They are all capable of winning the Golden Boot.
Also Sergio Aguero; he’s an extraordinary striker. After Messi he is the best one along with Angel Di Maria. He has what it takes to get it. I’ll go with Messi though, as top scorer and player of the tournament. But I’m a very big fan of his.
As for best goalkeeper, I’d say Julio Cesar for Brazil. He’s a close friend of mine and I know he’s prepared very seriously to be ready for the World Cup, going to Toronto on loan and working so hard. He was very eager to be there.
Overall, though, it’s not just about the strong individuals. It’s fundamental to have a team ethic, it’s the base on which you can build everything and go further.
The Argentina coach Alejandro Sabella has managed to build up a strong group, they’re good friends, they’ve played together for a long time, so they’re doing well. This is another reason why I’m tipping them to win the tournament.
