Hello everybody. Hope you enjoyed last night’s World Cup final. I’ll be here at 1500 UK (1600 CET) to answer the best of your questions about an amazing tournament in Brazil.

So here we go. First question for Alessandro. @MatsHeffner asks: What is your opinion of Germany’s World Cup-winning defender Mats Hummels?
Alessandro Nesta: He’s a great defender. Maybe he’s not that fast but he’s able to compensate for this weakness with his other great qualities. He is a great player.
July 14 2014 3:15 PM
Question from @RonBoy: Did Messi deserve the World Cup Golden Ball award?
Alessandro Nesta: He’s the best player in the world, but in this World Cup there were many other players who deserved the award more. Muller for sure, James Rodriguez as well, but also Mascherano and Schweinsteiger were better than Messi.
July 14 2014 3:17 PM
Question from @JimbobFC: Were you surprised by Brazil’s collapse from the semi-finals?
Alessandro Nesta: I was very surprised. Once Germany scored the second goal, Brazil got completely lost. That’s why they conceded all those goals.
July 14 2014 3:18 PM
@RealMahoney asks: Which team did you support yesterday in the World Cup final?
Alessandro Nesta: I slightly favoured Argentina. But I believe that you have to deserve to win a World Cup final, and Germany fully deserved their win.

@AdrianoRiccio has a great question about Italy: How do the Azzurri rebuild after their World Cup disaster?
Alessandro Nesta: It’s going to be hard. The players coming through will take time to develop and are not at the level of the older players. In Italy it’s necessary to get the youth system creating more Italian stars. There are too many foreigners in Italy, even in the youth categories.
July 14 2014 3:23 PM
@DaleAlexis asks: How highly do you rate Manuel Neuer?
Alessandro Nesta: He’s the best goalkeeper in the world. He’s complete, he’s agile, he’s great on one on ones. He has everything.
July 14 2014 3:25 PM
@DieguitoTango with the eternal question: Who is greater – Diego Maradona or Lionel Messi?
Alessandro Nesta: It’s too early to say. Once Messi has retired then we can answer that question. Messi still has one more chance to win the World Cup.
July 14 2014 3:27 PM
@TheSpecialTwo asks: Is there a coach with whom you have never worked that you would have liked to?
Alessandro Nesta: Jose Mourinho, for sure. And also Antonio Conte.
July 14 2014 3:28 PM
@SongJiPark asks: Who is the best player you ever played with?
Alessandro Nesta: The Brazilian Ronaldo. When he arrived at AC Milan he wasn’t at his peak, but he was still an amazing player
July 14 2014 3:30 PM
Back on Jose Mourinho. @BainesyCFC asks: What makes the Chelsea manager so special?
Alessandro Nesta: I don’t know him personally, but I’m curious about him. He has won so many trophies that he has to be special somehow. I like coaches with his type of personality.
July 14 2014 3:32 PM
Question from @ChrisAnkers: Who was the best team and best player at the World Cup?
Alessandro Nesta: Germany were the best team. James Rodriguez the best player
July 14 2014 3:33 PM
Question from @LazioSiamoNoi: Which team do you feel more attachment to – Lazio or Milan?
Alessandro Nesta: I grew up at Lazio, while with AC Milan I won most of my trophies. They’re both important loves of my career and life.
July 14 2014 3:35 PM
Question from @carlitobrigante: Do you see an heir to Alessandro Nesta among Italian defenders?
Alessandro Nesta: I don’t, no. Behind Barzagli, Chiellini and Bonucci there are no young players coming through. The Italian youth sectors have abandoned their focus on defence.
July 14 2014 3:37 PM
@Killuminati asks: Which four defenders would make up your best World Cup backline?
Alessandro Nesta: Philipp Lahm – Thiago Silva – Mats Hummels – Marcus Rojo
July 14 2014 3:38 PM
@quatrostelle asks: What were your first thoughts after winning the World Cup back in 2006?
Alessandro Nesta: At first, a very big joy. Then, a little bit of regret because I wished I could have played in the final as I was injured,
July 14 2014 3:40 PM
Question from @JuanSeba: Did nerves affect Higuain and Aguero in the final? If not, what happened? They played terrible
Alessandro Nesta: It happens sometimes when there’s such a prize at stake. In these circumstances, players can underperform.
July 14 2014 3:43 PM
Question from @DinoSmith: Did Andrea Pirlo deserve to win the 2006 Ballon d’Or ahead of the actual winner Fabio Cannavaro?
Alessandro Nesta: No, Cannavaro was the deserved winner.
July 14 2014 3:44 PM
@DonnaMara asks: Do you think Messi should still be considered one of the best players of all time despite flopping in the World Cup final?
Alessandro Nesta: Of course he should. Messi didn’t play well in the final but this shouldn’t erase all the amazing things he has done so far in his career.
July 14 2014 3:46 PM
@AbdulRossonero asks: Do you have any transfer advice for Milan this summer?
Alessandro Nesta: It depends on what their budget is, but I would definitely try and sign Alessio Cerci from Torino
July 14 2014 3:48 PM
Another AC Milan question from @AzizMaher: Who should sign Mario Balotelli?
Alessandro Nesta: It depends on his attitude towards his current club. At Milan he knows already how everything works, so he may even decide to stay. But it’s up to him.
July 14 2014 3:49 PM
@Bundesmachine asks: Which German player do you rate most?
Alessandro Nesta: Klose, at 36, is still amazing. But Muller, Lahm and Neuer are all great players, too.
July 14 2014 3:51 PM
Question from @Enganche14: Which World Cup 2014 player would you fear playing against the most?
Alessandro Nesta: Maybe Thomas Muller because he’s not an orthodox forward. His moves are out of the ordinary and difficult to predict
That’s all we have time for today, thank you for all your questions.
