Luis Suarez may take the lions’ share of the plaudits as Uruguay get ready to face the Italians in Tuesday’s Group D decider, but their Atletico Madrid centre-half Diego Godin is the main man in club manager Diego Simeone’s eyes.
Atletico manager Simeone, also the Sony Coaching Ambassador for the World Cup, said of the 28-year-old, capped 79 times: “He is one of the most important players in the club. If you asked me who couldn´t leave Atletico I would say Godín.
“Godín has improved a lot in every aspect a man can improve: football-wise, in terms of people management and timing wise. I wish him the best. I love him and I hope he plays with us in the future.”
