Only one name features in every lineup as we ask our Sony Team Ambassadors to name their World Cup dream teams – Lionel Messi. Other than the Argentinian, all our Ambassadors have chosen very different teams to scoop the fantasy football honors.
English Fan Ambassador Emile Heskey sets the trend by picking England’s No1 Joe Hart, although he’s the only Englishman to figure in a team featuring a back four of Barcelona’s Dani Alves, Thiago Silva of PSG, Sergio Ramos of Real Madrid and Philipp Lahm of Bayern Munich.
In midfield, he’s gone for Lahm’s teammate Bastian Schweinsteiger, Manchester City’s Yaya Toure and Andres Iniesta of Barcelona. Up front he’s got Ronaldo, who surprisingly does not appear in all teams, along with Dutchman Arjen Robben and the inimitable Messi.
German Ambassador Dietmar Hamann has also gone for his own country’s keeper by naming Manuel Neuer, of Bayern Munich, between the sticks.
His back four also features Alves, Sergio Ramos and Lahm, with Belgian and Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany completing the defensive lineup.
Ronaldo features but the 2002 World Cup finalist has lined him up with Kompany’s City teammate David Silva, Brazilian and PSG-bound David Luiz and Frenchman Paul Pogba from Juventus. His front two are the Argentinian pairing of Messi and Sergio Aguero.
Former Spain midfielder Gaizka Mendieta names Iker Casillas in goal behind a back four that also features Sergio Ramos, who is chosen alongside Argentinian and City favorite Pablo Zabaleta, Gerard Pique and Jordi Alba.
In midfield, he’s gone for Toure alongside Xavi and the only Chilean to feature in a Team Ambassador dream team, Arturo Vidal of Juventus. An attacking front three is made up of a Brazil-Argentina axis in the shape of Luis Suarez, Neymar and Messi.
Argentina Ambassador Diego Milito is the first to break ranks when it comes to own country keepers, instead choosing his friend, the Brazilian Julio Cesar, behind a back four of Maicon, Thiago Silva, Sergio Ramos and Frenchman Patrice Evra of Manchester United.
Ahead of those four, he’s chosen Italian Thiago Motta, Iniesta and Pogba. He also names Messi and Ronaldo and puts them with Aguero.
Italian Ambassador Alessandro Nesta, our latest recruit to the Sony ranks, will be sharing his World Cup predictions. Meanwhile, he has named his dream team and follows in the footsteps of most of his fellow Ambassadors by going for his own country’s No1 – Gianluigi Buffon of Juventus. Familiar names in the form of Dani Alves, Sergio Ramos and Thiago Silva are joined in defense by Real Madrid’s Brazilian Marcelo.
Once again CR7 features, this time alongside Andrea Pirlo of Juventus, Croatian midfielder Luka Modric and his Real Madrid teammate Angel Di Maria of Argentina. Up top, he’s named Luis Suarez to partner, yes, that man Messi.
