It was an accident. Spain made mistakes they usually don’t make. The Netherlands knew how to play against Spain and Spain allowed them playing long balls with many spaces behind defenders, letting Robben, Sneijder or Van Persie hurt us.
The positive fact is that these mistakes can be fixed. They were all positional mistakes and that can be changed. Moreover, the result could have been so different if Silva had scored. The Netherlands scored just after Silva’s chance and that changed the match. Spain can’t conceded that goal.
The damage is just psychological. This team has proved its value and we’ve got now six finals to be the champions. Chile won’t be easy, we all saw their quality. And Australia match may become a final where we need to score many goals. There are things to solve but it wouldn’t be fair not trusting this team after what these players have done in the past.
Diego Costa started nervous but after the penalty he played well. Playing with Costa means you have to change some things and can’t play as usual but he created some spaces and chances. It can be an alternative but not the only one option. It’s not our style so we need to know when to play like that.
It was surprising not reading anything about it (the future of some players) before the match but of course it’s important. Many players don’t know about their future and that can distract you.
And you can’t be in a competition like a World Cup without your mind 100 percent focused on it.
