Alessandro Nesta believes a pivotal decision from Mexican referee Marco Rodríguez was partly to blame for Italy’s shock World Cup exit at the hands of Uruguay
Italy tried to play their normal game against Uruguay, but clearly something wasn’t quite working for them. Nevertheless, I absolutely disagree with the key decision in the match from the referee.
Claudio Marchisio didn’t deserve the red card. In my opinion, it’s inconceivable for such a mistake to be made by a World Cup referee.
It is so disappointing for Italy. There are some good players in this team, like Marco Verratti and Marchisio, who can learn from their World Cup experience and grow stronger and be able to become pillars for the future of the Italian national team.
Mario Balotelli is also one for the future. He started the World Cup well against England but then it just didn’t happen for him after the first game.
For how long Gianluigi Buffon remains with the national team I’m not sure. In my opinion he’s still the best goalkeeper and he showed it against Uruguay as well.
He can decide whatever is best for him but my view is that he’s still extremely competitive.
